Summary

NYT bestselling author Nalini Singh returns to a world devastated by change in her award-winning Psy-Changeling Trinity series, where two people defined by their aloneness hold the fate of the Psy in their hands 。 。 。

Termed merciless by some, and a robotic sociopath by others, Payal Rao is the perfect Psy: cardinal telekinetic, CEO of a major conglomerate, beautiful—and emotionless。

For Canto Mercant, family and loyalty are everything。 A cardinal telepath deemed "imperfect" by his race due to a spinal injury, Canto cares for the opinions of very few—and ruthlessly protects those he claims as his own。 Head of intel of the influential Mercant family, he prefers to remain a shadow in the Net, unknown and unseen。 But Canto is also an Anchor, part of a secretive designation whose task it is to stabilize the PsyNet。 Now that critical psychic network is dying, threatening to collapse and kill the entire Psy race with it。

To save those he loves, Canto needs the help of a woman bound to him by a dark past neither has been able to forget。 A woman who is the most powerful Anchor of them all: Payal Rao。 Neither is ready for the violent inferno about to ignite in the PsyNet 。 。 。 or the passionate madness that threatens to destroy them both。

2。5 stars。 Recycled plot lines aren't doing it for me。 I want more development of the overall story。 More Architect, please。 And, maybe our "heroes" can get ahead of a situation for a change instead of constantly reacting。 2。5 stars。 Recycled plot lines aren't doing it for me。 I want more development of the overall story。 More Architect, please。 And, maybe our "heroes" can get ahead of a situation for a change instead of constantly reacting。 。。。more

3。5 stars。I did like it as we have a couple of deadly Anchors as H/h。 But I wish there was more progress to the overall story arc。 We see glimpses of the Architect and the continuing degradation of the PsyNet but I feel I want more。 Let's hope Ms Singh will provide something more spectacular in the next book。 3。5 stars。I did like it as we have a couple of deadly Anchors as H/h。 But I wish there was more progress to the overall story arc。 We see glimpses of the Architect and the continuing degradation of the PsyNet but I feel I want more。 Let's hope Ms Singh will provide something more spectacular in the next book。 。。。more

I do so enjoy the Trinity books

I really liked this couple, especially Canto。 I liked how strong his personality was even though he was physically disable below the waist and in a wheelchair。 The relationship between him and Payal was emotional, powerful and the sexy times was touching and very intimate。 I enjoyed the secondary M/M romance between Canto cousin and the bear shifter。 There were like night and day, but they fit and really funny。 I hope Ms。 Singh write a book about them!

Okay, so, I guess this means I officially finished the 20th book in this series。 And man, I love how the series has developed over the years。 From basically straight up straight porn with brilliant world building to brilliant world building with porn。 It's the first book to feature a disabled love interest and I was constantly holding my breath for sth problematic (bc I mean, it's a physically disabled character whose love interest is a telekinetic and boy was I afraid of a 'her love literally m Okay, so, I guess this means I officially finished the 20th book in this series。 And man, I love how the series has developed over the years。 From basically straight up straight porn with brilliant world building to brilliant world building with porn。 It's the first book to feature a disabled love interest and I was constantly holding my breath for sth problematic (bc I mean, it's a physically disabled character whose love interest is a telekinetic and boy was I afraid of a 'her love literally makes me walk') and it never came? It actually acknowledged the eugenic in concept of perfection?? Wow。 Also also further established the first gay couple, with names, screen time, flirting and pining? Damn Ms Singh, way to get along with time! And I didn't even talk about the story?? I just love this series and there are so many reasons I re-read multiple books of it embarrassingly often。 。。。more

There was no uniqueness in this story, it felt more like a copy paste。 🙄

Canto is a character we’ve met before and is a Mercant related to Silver。He’s uses a wheelchair/hoverchair due to reasons revealed in this book from his childhood。Unwanted, he is sent to a facility where he meets a young girl who saves him。Years later, he searches for her, as well as Psy called ‘Anchors’ who are dying out, and the Net will die with it。He finds Payal Rao, also an Anchor and powerful businesswoman who he wants to work with to save the Net。This one was great, so much happens that o Canto is a character we’ve met before and is a Mercant related to Silver。He’s uses a wheelchair/hoverchair due to reasons revealed in this book from his childhood。Unwanted, he is sent to a facility where he meets a young girl who saves him。Years later, he searches for her, as well as Psy called ‘Anchors’ who are dying out, and the Net will die with it。He finds Payal Rao, also an Anchor and powerful businesswoman who he wants to work with to save the Net。This one was great, so much happens that of course I can’t reveal but I was so happy we got to hear more of the Russian bears and how Canto’s cousin Arwen is revelling in his romance with his bear Pavel。There was plenty of romance, new and old characters, villainy, danger, trauma and fun。I listened to the audible version and the narrator Angela Dawe did a great job at varying the voices and tones。 。。。more

Finally another great installment in the Psy-Changeling world! I honestly haven't enjoyed the books after Silver and Valentin's story as much and am super excited for this one。 It reminded me of Heart of Obsidian and was just a fan read! Read until the endAnother thoroughly enjoyable read that kept me wanting to finish yet at the same time not wanting it to finish。 The two main characters were interesting to follow and see there story unfold。 The whole story line of the series is complex and reflects the skill of the writer。

3。5 starsWELL。 Don't get me wrong, a Nalini 3。5 is still great - it's just not doing it for me the way Alpha Night did。 I love Canto and Payal, but I think the romance got sidelined by all the worldbuilding。 I might revise the rating higher after I reread。 Anyway, MY CLAN! THE BEARS!!!! Man this was a good one。 I love the levels this book opened up about Psy。 I'm so darn proud of the author for not giving us the usual hero (although hubba hubba 🥰) and heroine。 We got visits from beloved friends。。。。This one just may have top ten status💙 Man this was a good one。 I love the levels this book opened up about Psy。 I'm so darn proud of the author for not giving us the usual hero (although hubba hubba 🥰) and heroine。 We got visits from beloved friends。。。。This one just may have top ten status💙 。。。more

This was a lovely read! It ir hard for me to like really like a book in this series that the pairing is between two Psy, but Payal and Canto have my whole heart。 I really like the Mercants, but I’m also curious to see who will be the next characters。 This series is my everything and is was like coming back to an old friend。 💓

"Last Guard" had a formula similar to other Psy-Changeling storylines。 If you enjoyed Heart of Obsidian and Mine to Possess, which featured childhood friends to adult lovers, then you may enjoy the established connection between Canto and Payal。 There's another trope , a gravely ill character, that has been tirelessly used in this series but maybe you're not tired of it yet。 As for action and pacing, this plot was slowwwww。 It made me sleepy in a few places and impatient in others。 Highlights in "Last Guard" had a formula similar to other Psy-Changeling storylines。 If you enjoyed Heart of Obsidian and Mine to Possess, which featured childhood friends to adult lovers, then you may enjoy the established connection between Canto and Payal。 There's another trope , a gravely ill character, that has been tirelessly used in this series but maybe you're not tired of it yet。 As for action and pacing, this plot was slowwwww。 It made me sleepy in a few places and impatient in others。 Highlights included tying in Sophia Russo (Bonds of Justice), Kaleb ("Heart of Obsidian"), and the Stonewater Bears。 The Architect, a long-running nemesis in this series, has become ineffective at creating tension much like the Lessers in J。R。 Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series。 Hopefully, the next book will host more tension。library loan 。。。more

I absolutely adored this book! Payal and Canto are everything。 She reminded me of Kaleb, and he and Sahara even featured in this story (my faves from Heart of Obsidian!)。 Payal and Canto saved each other as kids - him saving her food and giving her answers to impossible tests and her straight up murdering a dude who was trying to kill Canto。 I loved her feral child trying to break through her barriers as she fell in love。 And of course, I loved the Mercants and the bears like I did with Silver a I absolutely adored this book! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I liked Payal and Canto a lot, and I also liked to get insight into designation A as well as the Mercant family。 I LOVED to hear more about Arwen and Pasha and I would be absolutely thrilled if the next book would be about them !!However, I felt like this book was more of a filler, there was a little progress in the overall storyline, most of it happened in the last 80 pages and I couldn't really get into the characters and their love story。。。I felt like something was missing。 I enjoyed the book I liked Payal and Canto a lot, and I also liked to get insight into designation A as well as the Mercant family。 I LOVED to hear more about Arwen and Pasha and I would be absolutely thrilled if the next book would be about them !!However, I felt like this book was more of a filler, there was a little progress in the overall storyline, most of it happened in the last 80 pages and I couldn't really get into the characters and their love story。。。I felt like something was missing。 I enjoyed the book, as I enjoyed all books in this series and I would honestly read a whole book where all of the characters just come together for brunch an talk 😀 i love how Nalini just spins this world and the characters, it is just magnificent。 However, this is one of the few books in the series that I will not re-read over and over again - but that is fine。Looking forward to the next one !!! 。。。more

It was ok, with some caveats。 I’ve seen some reviews that talked about this book being boring。 While I wasn’t bored because the overarching plot of the destruction of the psy-net, plus the personal conflicts with Payal’s health and her family were interesting, I can see why others found it slow。The romance was pretty “insta” and tepid。 The conflicts were almost all outside of their relationship。 They were good and interesting conflicts, but the couple was very secondary to them。 The number one p It was ok, with some caveats。 I’ve seen some reviews that talked about this book being boring。 While I wasn’t bored because the overarching plot of the destruction of the psy-net, plus the personal conflicts with Payal’s health and her family were interesting, I can see why others found it slow。The romance was pretty “insta” and tepid。 The conflicts were almost all outside of their relationship。 They were good and interesting conflicts, but the couple was very secondary to them。 The number one problem that I could see irritating or boring some readers was the sheer amount of repetitive phrasing。 I listened to the audiobook, and the repetition was distracting and startling。 How many times can an author use the words “wild” or “primal” in one novel? Singh was apparently on a mission to find out。 How many sentences containing the phrase “that was” can we read without rolling our eyes? Example: “the woman that was his”, “the wild girl that was inside her”。 She also told us the same things over and over and over。 For example, she told us Arwen was gentle- and not by showing us Arwen being gentle, but by simply saying “Arwen was gentle。” Then “Arwen was the gentlest of them。” Then “He had to protect Arwen’s gentle heart。” (Paraphrase) and on and on。 She did it for the “wild girl” inside the heroine。 She did it for the psychopath brother。 She did it for “matriarch” Ina Mercant and the Mercant family, in general。 Readers aren’t stupid。 Tell us a dude is a psychopath once。 Then show him acting like a psychopath。 It’s enough。 We don’t need to be beaten over the head with the word。 I don’t know if it is padding word count or if she just doesn’t trust readers to get it。I guess it just feels like she has sunk so deep into her signature style of writing that she has forgotten to use her style to emphasize her story versus readers having to wade through her style to find the story。 To be honest, I blame it on the editors for not reigning the repetition in。 Again, maybe they wanted to increase word count。 This isn’t a stand alone。 If you want to understand where the psynet and Architect plot are going, you’ll have to read this one to keep up。 。。。more

I thoroughly enjoyed this latest Psy-Changeling novel, though I was TOTALLY not interested in the characters at first。 But I did get really into this! They had only a loose connection to the previous books so I wasn't sure, but the main plot was pretty important, so it was worth it。 So a good read! Thought the story was well-told even if it echoed many other storylines in the world。 There were chapters from both their POVs in the present and as children, as well as viewpoints from several other returning characters, plus Pavel (courting Arwen!!!) I thought that approach worked reasonably well although took away some time from seeing the main couple's perspective。 This is the first book that I feel like she really included all types of diversity -- not just a disabled and neurodiverse main couple, which alone would be awesome, but also gay relationships and non-binary folks。 I think that the multi-viewpoint perspective helped her incorporate more diversity, even if we'll never get a novel with a gay or lesbian couple。 It felt like she wrote thoughtfully about disabled life and there was no "cure" shenanigans for the hero (like with Dorian。。。)。 I have to roll my eyes a bit at "wow another super important thing that everyone forgot about but now will save everyone"! I feel like there should be enough pieces in the works to pull together a story using existing elements rather than creating something new to have an Exciting New Thing! to move the bigger plot along。 It was interesting enough but felt a little "crisis of the week。" Also how did Psy society survive for so long if they were killing all their disabled, sick and neurodiverse kids, and hurting the two types of people in their midst who were keeping them all alive and sane? 。。。more
